What’s a Magnet? - This introduction to magnets has students investigating the forces of magnetism like attract and repel, magnetic and nonmagnetic surfaces, and push and pull. Students will also discover some of the useful applications magnets have in their everyday lives. SOLs: Science K.1 K.3

What’s the Matter? - Solids, liquids, and gases oh my. This hands-on program will have students explore the properties of different forms of matter. Students will also experiment with how something as basic as water can change and affect different types of matter. SOLs: Science 1.1 1.3 2.1 2.3
More Than Magnets - So you think you know what a magnet looks like? Students will rediscover the forces of magnets using household materials like screws and batteries. Students will also learn about rare earth magnets, lodestones, and electromagnets. SOLs: Science 2.1 2.2
Our Community: Then and Now - Have your students experience hands-on-history. Using artifacts, old photos and puzzles, they will explore how technology, transportation and daily-life has changed in our community over time. SOL : Social Studies 2.4
Water, Water Everywhere - Become a water droplet and learn about what forms clouds, how it rains, and why water “disappears” on hot days. Find out what your “watershed address” is, and how it affects your daily life. SOLs: Science 2.2 3.9 4.8
Tides and Rotations - What causes day and night? Why do we only see one side of the moon? Learn about what causes the tides to rise and fall and the seasons to change and why the moon looks different every night. SOLs: Science 3.8, 4.7.
Simple Machines - Wedges, inclined planes, levers, wheels, pulleys, and screws; simple machines can be found everywhere. Students will learn about how they have been used throughout history and examine how we still use them today. SOLs: Science 3.1 3.2
Catch the Current - Static Electricity and current electricity is experimented with in this charged program. Students become electrons and move through series and parallel circuits, understand what types of forces move electricity and figure out if a pickle can really conduct electricity. Energy and Forces - Through mousetraps, hair-raising Van de Graaf generators, and marbles students will investigate force, energy, and motion. They will predict how energy andforces like friction affect motion. SOLs: Science 4.1 4.2
Sounding Out - Sound is energy and the students will investigate what we need to make sound and how to make “noise.” The sound program focuses on waves, frequency, music and resonation. SOLs: Science 5.2
