What about group tours?
Reservations for a variety of group tours (more than 15) may be made to take advantage of a lower admission price by calling (757)393-5258, ext. 10. For each 8 children in the group, one adult chaperone is admitted free. Be sure to ask about educational programming that can also be made available during your visit.

What about birthday party reservations?
Plan to have your child's next birthday party celebration at the Children's Museum of Virginia. Your room is available to you for 90 minutes and is set for 15 people with child-size tables and chairs. More people can be accommodated for a slight increase in the fee. Balloons and a small treat for the birthday child are provided. Food is welcomed with no restrictions. After the party your guests may enjoy the rest of the day in the museum on us! Parties are available 7 days a week. Please call (757) 393-5258, ext. 10 to check availability and make reservations. The cost is only $100.00 for a member and $125.00 for a non-member.

Where can I park?
Parking is available adjacent to the Children's Museum in the Children's Museum parking garage. Entrance to the garage is on County Street. Parking fees apply.

Can I bring strollers into the museum?
Strollers are welcomed.

How long has this museum been around?
Since 1980 The Children's Museum has had several homes, including the public library and the old courthouse. In 1994 it moved to its present location, a former department store. It just keeps getting better and better.

How do I get to the museum?
Our address is 221 High Street in Olde Towne Portsmouth, VA 23704.

From Virginia Beach
  • Take I-264 West into the Downtown Tunnel to Portsmouth.
  • Take the first exit (#7) immediately out of the tunnel.
  • As the ramp splits, keep right onto Crawford Street.
  • Turn left, proceed two blocks to County Street.
  • Turn right, park in three-story garage on left.
From Norfolk
  • Take I-264 West into the Downtown Tunnel to Portsmouth.
  • Take the first exit (#7) immediately out of the tunnel.
  • As the ramp splits, keep right onto Crawford Street.
  • Turn left, proceed two blocks to County Street.
  • Turn right, park in three-story garage on left.
From Norfolk's Waterside
  • Take the passenger ferry to first stop in Portsmouth, High Street Landing.
  • Walk west on High Street, one and a half blocks to Middle Street Mall. Entrance is on the mall side of the building.
From Chesapeake
  • Take Highway 17 North to Dominion Blvd.
  • Get on I-464 North to the Downtown Tunnel to Portsmouth.
  • Take the first exit (#7) immediately out of the tunnel.
  • As the ramp splits, keep right onto Crawford Street.
  • Turn left, proceed two blocks to County Street.
  • Turn right, park in three-story garage on left.
From Suffolk
  • Take Route 460 or Route 58 East.
  • Continue on to I-264 into Portsmouth.
  • Take Exit #7-B to Crawford Street.
  • Turn left on Court Street.
  • Proceed two blocks to County Street.
  • Turn right, park in three-story garage on left.
From Williamsburg and Newport News
  • Take I-64E to Hampton.
  • Take I-664S across the Monitor Merrimac Bridge Tunnel.
  • Take a left exit at 15A to I-264 East.
  • Exit at 7B for Crawford Street.
  • Bear left at the fork in the exit, at the bottom of the hill there is a traffic light on Court Street.
  • Turn left onto Court Street and go to the second light which is County Street.
  • Turn right onto County Street and look to your left for the three-story, white parking garage.
  • Park in the garage and the museum is directly behind the garage.
From North Carolina
